Types of implants and techniques used for breast augmentation in Miami

The two main types of breast implants available are saline and silicone implants.

Saline implants:

Saline implants have an outer silicone shell and are filled with a saline, or sterile saltwater, solution.

Positives:

  • Your body is able to absorb the filling material safely in case the implant leaks or ruptures.
  • Dr. Abeer Sawwaf can use a slightly smaller incision than she would with silicone implants.

Negatives:

  • Saline implants are not a good option for you if you have thin skin and little breast tissue and fat. As they are may be visible underneath the skin.

The FDA approves the use of saline implants if you are at least 18 years of age.

Silicone implants:

Silicone implants have both a silicone outer shell and a silicone-gel filling material.

Positives:

  • They more closely resemble the look and feel of natural breasts.
  • Also they are less likely to fold, wrinkle or ripple within the implant pocket.

Negatives:

  • They require a slightly larger incision than saline implants.

The FDA approves the use of silicone implants if you are age 22 or older.
