Breast Lift-Mastopexy

A breast lift – also known as a mastopexy – is a surgical procedure used to elevate and re-contour the breasts, as well as reduce the size of the areola if necessary. The procedure is designed to make the breasts look rounder instead of the typical elongated appearance.

Drooping or sagging breasts can occur with age, breastfeeding, significant weight loss/gain, pregnancy, or genetics. Breast Lift surgery (Mastopexy) is a popular option to correct this problem.

Dr. Abeer has the experience and knowledge to make your breasts look more attractive by:

  • Elevate your breast mound
  • Build a rounder breast shape
  • Raise the position of your nipple
  • Reduce the areolar size
  • Resolving breast asymmetries

If you desire more fullness as well, breast lift may be simultaneously performed with Breast Augmentation.

Dr. Abeer Sawwaf knows that each patient’s needs are different – just as each of our bodies is unique, so too are cosmetic procedures.

Generally, the best candidates for a breast lift are:
  • Non-smokers and those who are in overall good health
  • Women who are interested in correcting sagging or drooping breasts
  • Also, if your nipples are positioned below the crease of your breasts
  • Women who don’t require larger breasts, just ‘perkier’ ones

If you are Smokers then you should quit smoking at least 2 weeks prior to surgery. And patients who are breast feeding should wait 4 – 8 weeks after finishing breast feeding before having surgery so that the true breast size can be determined.

Breast lift surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia, which means you’ll need to avoid eating or drinking on the day of your surgery.

Dr. Abeer Sawwaf will develop an individual breast lift plan for you by:

  • Evaluate your overall health.
  • Assess your current breast size and shape and take measurements of your breasts to help determine the amount of sagging that is present.
  • Additionally, your skin laxity, symmetry, and the underlying bone anatomy of your chest will also be assessed.

Most patients in Miami are nervous about scarring that may occur after a breast lift procedure. During surgery, Dr. Abeer take excellent care during the incision process to minimize scars. In addition, she will provide a thorough scar care treatment protocol to help with the healing.

There are variations to the incisions used for breast lifting in Miami. The traditional method of lifting the breast uses 3 incisions:

  • One around the areola.
  • The second vertically from the bottom edge of the areola to the crease under the breast.
  • The third along the natural curve of the breast crease.

Your plastic surgeon will inform you which incisions are most appropriate for you.

During the procedure:

  • Dr. Abeer will form incisions
  • Reshape your breast underlying tissues to a more youthful shape and appearance.
  • Your nipples will also be readjusted and resized.
  • And excess skin removed before closing the incisions.

The result is a firmer, perkier breast that sits higher on the chest and looks completely natural as well as more youthful.

  • A breast lift is major surgery that requires a recovery period that lasts several weeks after your procedure is complete.
  • You’ll awaken from surgery with bandages and dressings over your incisions, as well as compression garments to help minimize swelling.
  • You may be instructed to wear a specific type of support bra as you heal.
  • Your breast will look slightly swollen and may have bruising during the first 1-2 weeks.
  • Your breasts may have a slightly unnatural shape to them. This is entirely normal, and it takes between 1-3 months for them to fully settle.
  • It is important to follow all of Dr. Abeer instructions following your procedure, including taking medications as directed to help lower the risk of infection.
  • One week after surgery, Dr. Abeer will see you to remove stitches and assess your progress.

Keep in mind that despite undergoing a breast lift, age, gravity, pregnancy and other factors can influence the long-term results of your procedure.
