Blepharoplasty

An eyelid surgery – also known as a blepharoplasty – is a procedure used to rejuvenate the appearance of your upper and lower eyelids.

Causes of eyelid problems:

Age and genetics can cause drooping, sagging, and excess folds around your eyes. This can contribute to both cosmetic and visual complications, including a tired and aged appearance, as well as difficulty seeing.

Eyelid surgery with Dr. Abeer Sawwaf can take years off of your eyes, eliminating under-eye bags, removing upper eye puffiness, and reduce the amount of excess skin around your eyes.

You may be a candidate for eyelid surgery if you are a non-smoking adult in good health.

It is important that you have realistic expectations for the outcome of your blepharoplasty.

Remember that the eyelids are part of your face. Though the appearance of a drooping upper lid may also be due to relaxation of the forehead skin and eyebrow. Moreover, in some cases a drooping eyelid is caused by stretching of one of the upper eyelid muscles (the levator muscle). Because of that a consultation with Dr. Abeer Sawwaf can help you determine whether your facial tissues and eye muscles are healthy enough to undergo a blepharoplasty procedure.

You can perform the procedure in the office under local anesthesia, IV sedation or general anesthesia in the operating room.

Dr. Abeer will carefully form an incision discreetly along the natural crease of your eyelid or along the lower lash line. It is via those incisions that excess skin can be removed, the muscles tightened, and fat deposits redistributed.

You have to follow special instructions provided by Dr. Abeer during the recovery period. These instructions are designed to facilitate a complete recovery free of complications.

  • When you awaken from surgery, your eyes may be covered in lubricating ointment.
  • In the following days, you may be responsible for applying topical medications or taking oral prescriptions to prevent infection.
  • It is normal to experience some swelling and bruising following the procedure, but most discomfort should subside within a few weeks.
